What is the CRAZIEST item in your craft space?

That is NOT scrapbook/craft related?

I posted this question yesterday at Two Peas and there have been tons of responses so I thought I would ask it here.  It has been hilarious reading some of the craziest or strangest things that end up in our crafting areas.

The answer for me is my wedding dress – not in a box but on display on a mannequin.  Basically I figure I have the space right now so why tuck it away to never be viewed.

Plus, I really like the dress – and I only got to wear it once!

that's my wedding dress tucked in the corner of my craft space!

Can you see it tucked over there behind my Accucut machine (use for making class kits) and past all the kidlet mess?  (That table you see in the forefront of the picture is the kidlet crafting table that I added to the center of the room so the kids would have a place to craft without me needing to clear my desk all the time.)

(Do you see the “window” in my craft room? It was left (glass removed) when the addition was put on the house and I can see the kitchen through it.  Love this feature.  I have another one to the right that looks down into the family room.  I can overhear the kidlets making trouble this way!)

So here it is – the full view of my dress.full wedding dress view (ignore the horrible wallpaper, please)

Please remember to ignore the horrible wallpaper in my crafty space!  We are in a rental and it came with the place. :(   I so want to change it to something soothing and solid colored…

And of course I need to give you a detail shot cause I just love this dress.  Did I mention that I only got to wear it once?????detail shot (that is my veil wrapped around the top)

That is my veil wrapped around the top.  It needed to be put to good use too.

So that is my strange thing in my craft space.  I have read others having washing machines and dryers (cause there craft space is in the laundry room) or cardboard cut-out and other funny objects.

What is yours?  Leave me a comment (and a link to photos if possible).  I would love to see. :)

Scrapbooking in the Great Outdoors

Friday, July 10th, 2009

My kidlets are at day camp and my hubby is there as well – teaching – so I am trying something new today.  It is an extremely gorgeous day – warm but not hot (we are having a cool summer) and there is a slight breeze. I kind of feel like I am missing out on all the good weather this summer (I hate winter!) so I grabbed the scrapbook page I am working on and headed to my front porch.

Scrapbooking on my front porch today!

It is so awesome t be outside crafting!

I have to admit I am totally spoiled because the house we are living in right now has the most amazing covered porch.  Here is one corner of it – where I am working today.my front porch

See that big window?  That is my craft room.  If I need anything it is just a quick pop through the front door and into my room to grab whatever I want.

I am loving this outdoor crafting thing!

Hope you are having as good a day as I am! :)

The “Kid Table”

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Did you have a kid table for big family dinners? We did.  When I was little I loved it.  When I was thinking I was big enough to be at the  adult table I hated it!

Today I added a new kind of KID TABLE to our home. A permanent one. Not something that is pull out to hold the overflow at family dinners. A different kind.
A crafting kid table.

Our new KID TABLE!

It is actually something that I have wanted for a very long time but space has never allowed for it.  Now I have the space.  (You can see my table directly behind Magnus.)  This means I can leave my stuff where it is (Harper had a permanent spot directly across from me but it doesn’t work with my new table shape) and not have to shuffle things when they wander in and want to be near me – crafting or reading or having large Star Wars battles with my buttons….

A few weeks ago my hubby switched out my crafting table for a new (to me) glass dining room table.  I have loved this change.  The table has little visual weight because it is clear and it leaves my crafting room feeling very open.  Then there the dilemma of what to do with my old table (a dining room table also).  It was decided it would go into storage in the basement until a need arose.  It never made it ’cause I suddenly realized that if I took out the center piece I could make it into a small table – perfect for the kids.

Today I cleared some of the mess in my scrap space (hey I’m human!) and set up the table.  It took Magnus about 1/2 a second to realize this meant he could come and craft when I was working.  Out came the stamps, some printer paper and some ink and he was a happy little dude!

Magnus' stamping technique!

I have to admit it was tiny bit distracting but in the best possible way!  I cannot resist watching him play and make noises and craft-  all at at the same time.  He totally knows how to do it all – how to ink his stamps, how to clean them with a scrubbing pad and how to get darker and lighter images. :)

And since he knows I go away to teach he then explained his techniques to me so then I could share this with my classes (his words!).  He was very serious about the whole thing.  He even volunteered his samples so I could show my classes.

Give it all you've got!

According to Magnus – sometimes when you want a really, really good stamped image it is best to stand so you can really “push off” all the ink.  LOL

Sometimes standing is required! LOL

Seriously.  Could he be any cuter?

THIS is the reason I wanted a kid table in my crafting space.  I am sure Harper will have some gems like these for me to love.

(I am now on the look out for fun containers and baskets to hold some of their supplies so they can really feel like it is their space.)
